Current Offerings from the Race Matters Institute 

We welcome the opportunity to support your aspirations to advance racial equity. Please review our standard menu of offerings below. If you have additional needs, we are happy to discuss those. Our work is always customized to your specific circumstances. OUR SERVICES CONTINUE TO BE OFFERED VIRTUALLY; WE DO NOT ANTICIPATE RETURNING TO ON-SITE ENGAGEMENTS PRIOR TO THE END OF 2022.

Laying the Groundwork: Introduction to Racial Equity

1.5-day Introduction to Racial Equity

  • Strongly recommended for clients who expect traction for advancing racial equity
  • Covers RMI’s 5 Building Blocks: shared language, structural lens, 3 core tools
  • Includes test-drive of the Racial Equity Impact Analysis tool (or another tool, if immediately more applicable)
  • Highlighted by an application workshop to address client’s immediate work
  • Packaged with two follow-up 90-min. virtual coaching sessions

1-day Introduction to Racial Equity

  • For clients only able to devote one day for training (1.5 day is highly recommended)
  • Often used for Boards of Directors before or after 1.5-day Staff training, with dedicated focus on organizational strategy and Board-specific functions
  • Briefly covers RMI’s 5 Building Blocks: shared language, structural lens, 3 core tools
  • Includes test-drive of the Racial Equity Impact Analysis tool (or another tool, if immediately more applicable)
  • Packaged with one follow-up 90-min. virtual coaching session

½-day Introduction to Racial Equity

  • Intended for conference sessions or other formats in order to generate broad interest
  • Can be tailored for Boards of Directors, with focus on organizational strategy and Board-specific functions
  • Brief overview of Building Blocks, but focuses specifically on shared language, structural lens, and test-drive of Racial Equity Impact Analysis
  • Can be offered as a “deep dive” on a particular Building Block, following the 1 or 1.5-day introductory training

Going Deeper: Specific Applications for Advancing Racial Equity

Technical Assistance/Coaching

These offerings assume participant completion of introductory-level racial equity work. Our current menu of topics, usually offered virtually, includes:

  • TA: Becoming a Best in Class Race-Informed Organization
  • TA: Managing for Organizational Diversity, Inclusion & Equity for White Leaders
  • TA: Being in Partnership with Organizations & Communities of Color
  • TA: Building a Backmap to Identify the Drivers of an Operational Issue or Program Area
  • TA: Deeper Application of the Racial Equity Impact Analysis Tool
  • TA: Presenting Data with a Racial Equity Lens
  • TA: Workshopping Your Messaging/Communications Challenges
  • TA: Creating Your Organization’s Style Guide Using a Racial Equity Lens
  • Coaching: For Managers and Staff of Color Working in White-Led Organizations
  • Coaching: For Board Leadership

The TA sessions can also be offered as ½-day workshops or combined for full-day workshops on site. We are available to discuss any topics specific to your work beyond those listed above.

Beyond Training & Technical Assistance: Additional Offerings

Webinars/Webinar Series

  • Generally presumes participant completion of introductory-level racial equity work
  • Designed around your specific needs and requests

Customized “Backmap” Development

  • Specific application of the “What’s Race Got to Do With It?” tool to understand the drivers of a given client issue
  • Offered for organizations that have had 1.5 or 1 day introductory session
  • Includes research for and layout of a Draft Backmap for the client
  • Can be followed up with ½-day or 1-day session with a client and their stakeholders to review, fine-tune, and begin application for the purpose of collective impact

Customized Organizational Document Review

  • Generally done before an introductory session but can be provided post-training or stand-alone
  • Focuses on core organizational documents, such as strategic plan, written policies and protocols, data disaggregated by race, sample external communications
  • Produces an Assessment Memo identifying both organizational strengths and areas of opportunity for additional work

Taking Racial Equity to Scale (please inquire for details)

  • Intended for large organizations, community-wide coalitions and national networks
